Comparing Yourself To Others
We all do it. It is part of the “norm” to compare ourselves to others around us. We compare ourselves to our friends, our neighbors, our co-workers, other mothers, the lady in the check out lane next to us, the lady getting her hair done at the beauty shop, etc. What I would like you to realize is that you are beyond compare! I’m speaking to you, dear readers … to my daughters, as I see them struggle with this very same thing, … and I am speaking to myself.
Every single one of us possess gifts that God has given to us. These are gifts that our Heavenly Father has placed inside of us. They are our unique gifts.
Although we all play the comparison game, it is something that is not needed. We don’t need to compare ourselves to any one. We are exactly who God made us to be. There is no one else in the world like you. God formed you, and you are beautiful! You are fearfully and wonderfully made!
Ps. 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Do you believe that ALL that God has made is good? If so, realize that this includes YOU, sweet child of God!
Gen. 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Let’s give up the comparison game right now. Will you agree to start viewing yourself based on the verses above and more along the lines of how GOD sees you?
2 Timothy 2:15 ESV Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
You are loved! You are valued! You are beautiful … Just the way you are!
There is no one else like you.

Love this post – how encouraging. I find myself comparing myself to others all.the.time. and it truly is counterproductive and I believe something God doesn’t want us doing. Thank you for this encouragement today!

I agree, Nicole. I truly don’t believe that God wants us to do this either. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for allowing me to encourage your heart. There is no one else on this earth like you – and you are amazing!

Thank you for sharing! I find that comparison isn’t necessarily, absolutely wrong. If we let those comparisons fester into jealousy…sure…that needs to stop immediately! We each have our own unique worth that should be honored instead of eroded by jealousy.
But let’s not forget the tool of admiration, and our ability to see our potential through the inspiration we can garner from others. Just as you strive to inspire others with the word of God, almost anything we do as role models is subject to comparison and self reflection. Or at least we hope!

Hi Ashley,
Thank you for your thought-provoking comment! I was speaking more of comparing ourselves and our talents to others as recently I have heard comments such as, “I’m not as good of an artist as her,” OR “I’m not as thin as she is.” When those types of comparisons are made, the person feels defeated, discouraged, and depressed. It was my goal to help them see that they possess such beauty in themselves and their God given talents. They are unique as are their talents and abilities, and they should all be celebrated simply because they are amazing and formed by our Awesome God!
Thank you for stopping by!

Comparison is the worst! I suffer from that stupid affliction myself, so I know!
