I didn’t realize he was bi-polar as well. Bless his heart. It can be hard to pin point unless it were someone close to him (who were aware of the situation). Even depression is a cycle. It comes and goes, but rarely goes away for good on its own. I’m just glad that this has brought o much publicity and awareness to this terrible disease that plagues so many people.

Yes, most definitely, the public needs to be aware that this is very real. It isn’t something that can be swept under the rug. It needs to be addressed. There is a lot of shame involved for the person that is going through depression and for someone that is Bi-Polar. This often times prevents them from reaching out for help. It’s so sad that awareness is being raised by the loss of yet another precious soul by their own hands. The survivors of suicide, those family and friends living in the aftermath of the suicide of their loved ones actually face a lot of guilt and shame as well. It is truly heart breaking. Also, those struggling are so good at wearing masks, you truly never know what a person is thinking or what is going on behind their smile. My heart goes out to all that have struggled with depression.

Depression is so real and there is no one cure. I struggled with it many years after my brother was killed. Drugs did not help me. I dont struggle any more but I know what it is like to want to take your life as you see no hope.

I am so sorry that you have experienced this feeling firsthand, Tara. Your comment actually provides hope for those that may be feeling like that right this minute. They will be able to see that you were able to move past this and have a bright future. They will be able to see that you understand where they are, but if they hold on a little longer, things will get better.

Thank you for sharing your family’s story. It’s so important that we really look at the people around us and help them when the demons hit.

Thank you for stopping by, Barbara. I wish more people would do as you said and look around to try to help others when possible. We have to first remove this stigma and encourage people that are feeling this way to reach out because help is available. A lot of times they do suffer in silence never telling a soul the thoughts that torment their soul. My sister was one that suffered in silence and did not reveal to us how she was truly feeling. I so wish she had reached out and that we could have saved her.

It just hurts to think of how many people are hiding this. I remember years ago, if you were diagnosed with depression, you were seen as weird. It needs to change in today’s world. For some people it’s a chemical imbalance, for others, just bad life. I pray often for people dealing with this. 🙁

There really is such a stigma attached to it, Jamie, so much so that people will refuse to seek help due to this. It is a very sad day when other things have become more accepted in this day and age but not someone with depression. I would like to see that changed as well. There is no shame in this at all. It takes a very strong person to realize they need help and to seek it. I admire people who have reached out and encourage others to do the same. They should not suffer in silence.

Thank you Shirley for such a beautiful post and reaching out to those in need.
I think many people are afraid to admit they may have these struggles and changing your mindset to positive thoughts and blessings and reaching out for help can be possible with Gods grace. He conquers all.

Thank you, Dusty. It would probably surprise us all with how many times our friends or family members have felt down and had very similar thoughts. I just pray that they will reach out and allow God’s love to cover them and give them strength to continue on.

I have never lost anyone I know to suicide but I can’t even imagine the feeling of a family who has. It is definitely a great loss and I am praying for Robin Williams’ family at this sad time.

Thanks for your story. It is a difficult disease to live with and confusing to those who do not have it. How do you explain to anyone that you would just like to get off the planet today. Through God’s Love we can all see that we are:
    1) Unconditionally loved
    2) Never alone
3)Worthy not because of what we did but because of the price Jesus Christ already paid for us.

After having children myself I saw a glimpse of what God’s love for me is like, how deeply He cared for me and would love me and care for me just as I would the helpless babe they put in my arms.

Never alone is crucial to me at the times the world seems to cave in. The “joy of the Lord is my Strength Neh. 8:10 is my watch verse now.
