I have often in my life used song lyrics to help convey an idea or a feeling. Over the years, I can see that there are times that I have felt very much like the lyrics in some of my favorite songs:
“Where do I take this pain of mine
I run, but it stays right by my side”
Until it sleeps – Metalica
I have found since a very young age that music is as uplifting as anything I have ever found in my life. I can spend hours listening to music ranging from very heavy metal to classical and everything in between. I tend to gravitate to that music that speaks to my moods or feelings at that time:
“The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you”
At Last – Eta James
I have found that no matter the mood, whether we’re angry, sad, happy, or even numb, music can pierce what ever you are feeling, go right to your soul, and feed it. At times when I have felt at my lowest, I could listen to a song, many different genres of music, and I could find that “one” song, that one lyric, and think “Yes … that’s it exactly!”
“This is me for forever One of the lost ones
The one without a name Without an honest heart as compass
This is me for forever One without a name
These lines the last endeavor To find the missing lifeline
Oh how I wish For soothing rain
Oh how I wish to dream again Once and for all
And all for once
Nemo my name forevermore”
Nemo – Nightwish
Music has been called the universal language, and it truly is! The rhythm, melody, and the beat can reach into every one’s heart, no matter the nationality and language they speak. Music has the power to bring diametrically different cultures together, if even only for the three to four minutes that song may be playing.
For a brief moment in time, music can join together people from every background, religion and culture. My native heritage has used the drum and voices raised in song to carry prayers. It can describe a broken heart, tell of the joys of eternal love, and sometimes both in the same song.
Now I suppose, whomever is reading this may be wondering: “Ok where’s the nut going with this?” Stay with me, please.
We live in a society based on the almighty dollar. Some believe that who makes more is better while others think that they have to make it big. We revere athletes who only care about money, not the adoring young people that dream of being just like them. We spend billions (that’s billions with a “B”) of dollars on sports programs, sports stadiums, sports training, etc. “Little Johnny is going to be a star quarterback, I’ll make that happen.” We put so much importance on money, money, money …
‘Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on the
earth, where moth and rust consume, and
where thieves break in and steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
-Matt 6:19-24
Money is a tool just like a hammer or a screwdriver. Yet, so many make it the lifeblood of their existence so much so that we construct huge stadiums to pay and observe the “sport.” When that thing that fuels us … Music … has it’s funding taken from it to fuel the new arena. Music fills our soul, lifts it to the heavens, and replenishes that which was lost. Music speaks to your soul. Let’s see a star basketball player do that.
“The world is full of compromise, and infinite red tape
But the music’s got the magic, it’s your one chance for escape
So turn me on – turn me up – it’s your turn to dream
A little magic power makes it better than it seems”
Magic Power – Triumph
Music can … and does … tell of feelings of love better then many people feel that they can describe. Let’s see a million dollar football player do that. Music brings our heart to life, let’s our soul sing (even if it’s only in the shower) … and when we come to that person, “The One!” our own words may fail us. We my stumble, stammer, and stutter. But music and having “OUR SONG” makes ‘lil Cupid smile!
“Every time our eyes meet
This feeling inside me
Is almost more than I can take
Baby when you touch me
I can feel how much you love me
And it just blows me away
I’ve never been this close to anyone or anything
I can hear your thoughts
I can see your dreams”
Amazed by Lonestar
Life should be filled with music and our lives should be filled with it. Music moves you, inspires you, uplifts you, and gives you the strength to rise up from the trenches and get back into this fight called life.
“You will be shown
How I’ve become
Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible”
Indestructible – Disturbed

Vent all you need to, Aimee. We don’t like the hard and nasty rap either. I can tolerate just about anything but that!
